WPI Partnership Implementing Math and Science Education (PIMSE) Schedule 2009 - 10
As a teacher in the PIMSE program, we offer many opportunities for you to develop your effective use of the ASSISTment system. First and foremost is the cooperative help of a Graduate Student from WPI who will work closely with you. They will help you prepare in the summer and work throughout the year. The grant itself provides up to $4500 in funding for each participating teacher. This money is paid at a rate of $35/hour. As you complete each of the activities outlined below you will sign an attendance sheet or submit timesheets to be reimbursed. In order to provide flexibility to people's ability to commit time, you will notice some activities are optional.
Kick-off Class/ Workshop Meet your fellow, learn about PIMSE and GK-12 (in other words where the money comes from), learn about how we document our work with the program. Then we will do ASSISTment 101 trying to get to as many features as possible. June 6th, 8:30 – 3:30 Lunch will be provided.
Summer Work During your first year, you can work up to 40 hours during the summer at WPI preparing your account for the year to come. Your fellow will be available to help as well as other teachers involved with the program and Cristina Heffernan. The time is to be determined by you and the PIMSE staff.
August Class In this second workshop/class we will share our plans for the classroom and how each teacher/fellow team plans to collect data and respond. We will focus on how to use the extra person in your classroom to your advantage. August 15th, 8:30 – 12:30 We will provide lunch following the class.
Work with a Fellow in your classroom Teacher and Fellow work together to implement the ASSISTment plan developed in the first two classes. This meeting would be for a minimum of 1 hour before or after school to plan and reflect. September – June, One day a week.
Teacher visits to other schools Twice during the 2009-10 school year we will conduct school visits so you can see how other teachers in the community are using the ASSISTment system. We will provide the funding for a substitute to help facilitate the visit. This is not required. TBA
