Folders
This section of the assignments page allows you to organize problems sets in folders that have not been assigned to your class. The Folder container contains 4 different sections for the 4 primary folder types.
Folder Types
There are four different primary folders that should be visible to you. Every folder may contain subfolders or other folder items. The primary folders that should be visible to you are as follows:
ASSISTment Certified Problem Sets: In this folder you will find problem sets that are ASSISTment certified. The system administrator is responsible for managing the contents of this folder. As a teacher you are not allowed to move or delete any of the items in this folder. However you are allowed to copy items to your own folder or assign a problem set directly to your class.
- Beginner users with ASSISTments will want to just assign content directly from this folder. To see what is in the folder click on "Print" to see the contet. To see what the content looks like for students click on "Test Drive". To assign the new content to your class click on "Assign"
District Folder Items: This folder contains items that are managed by the district administrator for your district. Contact us at assistment-help@wpi.edu if you would like to become the District Administrator.
School Folder Items: This folder contains items that are managed by the school administrator. Contact us at assistment-help@wpi.edu if you would like to become the School Administrator..
My Folder Items: This is your folder. Here you can organize problem sets by creating your own folder hierarchy. You can add items to folder, copy folders from the other primary folders, assign entire folders to your class, etc. A complete list of actions can be found in the Folder Actions section.
Folder Actions
Various actions can be performed on folders and their folder items. These actions are made available in the form of links that are aligned to the right of the folder names. Some of these options are only available after you have opened a folder. To open a folder simply click on the name of the folder. A list of all the actions that can be performed on folders are as follows:
Create Sub-folder: Allows you to create your own sub-folders. After clicking on the 'Create Sub-Folder' link, simply type in a name for your sub folder and click create.
Assign: Assigns an item to your class. When assigning folders all problems sets contained in the chosen folder will be assigned. This includes all problem sets contained in all sub-folders of the selected folder as well.
Move: Moves an item to another location. To move an item, click the move link and select the folder that you want to move the item to in the dropdown box that appears.
Duplicate: Copies the item to a new folder location. To duplicate an item, click the duplicate link and select the folder that you want to duplicate the item to from the dropdown box that appears. Duplicating a folder will duplicate all items contained in the folder.
Delete: Deletes the selected item. If you are deleting a folder, all its subfolders and other items that it contains will be removed. Deleting a problem set from these folders does not delete the item from the system. So you can always find the items that you deleted and add it back to your folders.
Reposition: This link is only visible after a folder is opened. To open a folder simply click on the name of the folder. After the folder is open, this action allows you to change the order of the items inside the folder. A simple way to reposition items is to click on them and simply drag them to their new position. But, if you are about to reposition a large number of items, you can click the green reposition link next to the other folder actions.
This makes number boxes appear before the names of the folder items. You may edit the number in this box to assign a new position number for an item. After you have entered the new positions, click on the "Reposition folder items" link located in the sentence right below of your folder.
Rename: Renames a folder. Click on the "Rename" link and enter a new name for the folder.
Add Problem Sets to Folders: This section of the page allows you to add problem sets to your "My Folder Items" folder. To get to this form either click on the the "Add" link that appears next to the "Create Sub-Folder" link or the "Add" link at the bottom-right corner of the folders container.
