Using the ASSISTment system Checklist

Greetings,

I am so excited you have decided to try out the ASSISTment system. Using new technology is not always easy. Your first day using ASSISTments with students may set you back to feeling like you are a first year teacher. I promise it will work out ok in the end. Just take a deep breath and dive in!

To help you swim, however, I have devised this checklist. Use it before your first day in the lab. I hope this helps. If you have any questions or comments please contact me at ch@wpi.edu.

Sincerely Cristina Heffernan ASSISTment Math Education Specialist Worcester Polytechnic Institute

The Checklist:

  • I have made a teacher Account
  • I have made a class in my Account
  • I have loaded problem sets into my class (either by number or by using the folders) for my students to work on.
  • I have printed the “Getting Started Script” to go over with my class.
  • I have decided what my students will use for a password
  • I have asked my students to bring a pencil and something to write on to the lab.
  • I know where I am going to tell my students to write down their new login and password so they can find it later.
  • I have loaded extra assignments (either in the same “ASSISTment class” or a different one) for my students to work on when they finish. Or I have determined some other work for them to do.
  • I have made my own student account and tried the assignments so I know what my students will see.
  • I have a plan for sharing the data we collect with the students so they can learn what I see in my account.
