Description
Ms. Tignor uses ASSISTment in class for her Geometry classes. She has become quite skilled at finding assistments that fit her learning objectives for the week and bundles them up for students to work in class. She selects multiple choice and quicker problems that students can get done in about 20 minutes.
Students use a record sheet with squares on it to record their work. Ms. Tignor finds this very beneficial because it emphasizes the idea that students should do work on paper in order to be successful and she is able to access their work quickly and easily.
As students work Ms. Tignor reviews the item report putting the averages for each problem and the class average up on the electronic white board for students to watch. Once they are all done the class reviews the problems that they did the most poorly on.
Notes from Class Dec 3, 2009
- As Ms. Tignor goes over the problems she starts from the beginning and goes over the whole problem even though she knows from the data what they did wrong. She does not save time on these by just bringing up the little mistake.
- The scores from the classwork go on the back wall of the classroom in direct competition with the other geometry class. Their are two bulldogs that chase to the end and the distance they go depends on the total score from tests, quizzes and ASSISTment classwork class averages. Last year Ms. Tigonr would tell Period 2 what Period 1's score was and they would really try to do better. She felt that was not fair so she now does not give out the score to period 2 so the comptetion is fair.
