How to make your image proportional
By Prabodha Pradhan
You can either use the drag feature in the text area after you upload the image
You can see t he pixel size of your image near the bottom right of your mouse cursor.
OR
When you are inserting the image, change the Dimensions in the Appearance tab.
You can also change the Dimensions after inserting the image by right clicking on the image and clicking on Insert/edit image which will open the dialog box which you used to insert the image. You can then follow the same procedure to change the Dimensions.
How to get the image to be clear and not fuzzy
The first thing to do if you are creating your own images is create images with thick edges. This will help ensure that when you upload the images, changing their size will not affect the quality.
If you are using an already built image, and it turns out fuzzy when you upload it, you can do one of two things.
Use Paint
You can open the image in Paint, then redraw over the original image using thicker lines.
OR
Use GIMP
This tutorial will be using GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program). It can be downloaded here.
Let's start off with the fuzzy image seen below:
Open GIMP and open your fuzzy image into GIMP (one way to do this is to drag and drop the file to the GIMP window).
We will be using the magic wand tool (aka the fuzzy select tool) in GIMP. The location of this tool is highlighted in the image below.
When you select inside the trapezoid (of the fuzzy image) and you left the threshold at the default 15.0 (which is also highlighted in a red box in the image above), you can see that you're not selecting the entire inside of the box (see below). The selection area is the area inside the dashed line (in GIMP, they will look like marching ants).
To select the entire area inside the box, turn the threshold up. In this case, a threshold around 140 is sufficient.
You should see that the selection is now flush against the box.
Now select the bucket fill tool, highlighted in a red box below.
Make the foreground color white (the area highlighted in a purple box). You can select foreground color by clicking in that foreground color box.
Again, turn the threshold level up (the area highlighted in a red box near the bottom of the window) in order to fill everything you want. In this case, a threshold of about 100 should be sufficient.
Now click in the area inside the box of the fuzzy image and it will fill the entire box with white, getting rid of the fuzz.
Now go back and repeat all these steps for the area outside the box in order to get rid of the fuzz.
- Select the Fuzzy Select Tool
- Click on a point outside the box
- If the area you select is not flush with the box, turn threshold up and re-click on a point outside the box
- Select bucket fill tool
- Make foreground color white
- Make sure threshold is sufficiently high
- Click inside selection area (which should be the area outside the box)
- Enjoy your new, fuzz-free image, which you can now save.
