Making animated gifs
From TeacherWiki
Animated gifs are animations in the .gif extension, so it can be viewed on all web browsers.
In order to make an animated gif, use an image editing program that allows creating images with layers. The program I use is GIMP. The method to create the file might be different if you use another program.
First, you must create the image. This is done by making each frame as a separate layer, with the bottom layer as the first frame to the top layer as the last frame. Next, use the animation -> optimize (gif) filter, which will reduce the space taken up by the gif when created. Then save as a .gif file. When it asks if you wish to flatten the image or create an animated gif, choose to animate. Continue through the options, then save. When you view the image in a browser, it should play as an animation.
